This adventure was tricky to plan because of all the rivers that needed to be crossed, particularly at this time of year when the ferry season had mainly ended. However, with Fiona as our driver we were able to solve this problem without having to plan for ferries or make long detours.

We based ourselves in a beautiful cottage called Bluegate Barn just outside Modbury.

The location was ideal as it was close to the main A379 making getting to and from our daily start and end points easier although, having said that, once off the main road, the Devonian country lanes often involved some interesting obstacles with lots of challenging reversing!

Justine and David A were not arriving until the Saturday evening so Fiona and I were able to spend the day, firstly looking around Modbury and having morning coffee at the lively cafe close to the market town car park and church, and then having lunch at the excellent Sloop Inn at Bantham where we had lunched before when staying in Thurleston.

The walking plan for the 5days was as shown below. With the advance weather forecasts we were expecting to make some changes but this time we were lucky in that although we had the occasional light shower the weather in the main was excellent.

Before we set off on Sunday 2 October there was the obligatory Team photo ...

Each of the above walks are described in individual blog pages.

NOTE - The SWCP Association Walking Guides for each leg of the path are available from the SWCP Association Shop and are packed with detail not only about the route but also interesting facts about what to see on the way.
