The last day!, and although it was only 10miles of mainly gentle walking Fiona’s feet were now causing some problems and also the knees were reacting in sympathy. Firstly, Allen drove us back down to Helford Passage but no sooner had he left us when I realised that I had left my walking pole in the back of his car! I had to phone Clare and Allen kindly came back again – secretly he seemed pleased because it had got him out of remaking up our bed!
Leaving Helford Passage …
… by the time we were walking around Rosemullion Head Fiona started to experience a sharp pain in her left foot and her right knee and we were concerned that she would not be able to make it to the finishing line. We were making good time so had a good long lunch at the cafe on the beach at Maenporth where a group of tame swans wondered up the beach and eventually on to the cafe terrace to be fed by a local chap.
Fiona is made of sterner stuff and we finally made it to Gyllyngvase beach at Falmouth where David had a celebratory ice cream …
and then to the Westcott Guest House for a rest. Fortunately we had arranged the day before to meet up for a meal with Daphne and Keith who live in Camborne about 30mins drive away. Daphne and Fiona were in the same set when doing nurse training at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. We had recently met up with them again at Shrimp and Rob’s in Worcester and we were looking forward to seeing them again. They picked us up in the evening and we had a great meal at the Warehouse Bistro in Falmouth, although we can’t remember too much about what we ate and drank as the company was so lively and entertaining. So an enjoyable end to a wonderful week but we couldn’t wait to get home to rest weary legs and feet and colour in the 61.6miles on our SWCP wall map.
