The weather forecast was for light rain most of the day so we changed the walking schedule to do the Lyme Regis to West Bay walk as it was nearer to our base in Chideock, but we only got as far as Seatown.

At Lyme Regis the weather was dull but still dry so we all walked along the seafront and then the 3 walkers climbed up to the higher east car park at which point the first drops of rain were detected. Putting on our waterproofs was a good move as the rain (never heavy) continued all day.

Due to coastal erosion in the area the SWCP path to Charmouth goes inland across a golf course and along main roads, all of which had a separate tarmac footpath alongside. Bearing in mind the weather the route was probably better than an exposed route along the headland but nevertheless we were getting wet.

At Charmouth on the seafront we solved the fish mystery. The Coastwatch lady sitting in a small hexagonal hut informed us that the whitebait were being washed up because they were trying to escape from they mackerel who were coming close to the shore because they were trying to escape from the bass! Apparently the event would only last for 2 or 3 days - presumably the bass won?

From Charmouth there was not much to report mainly because we couldn't see anything and now we still had the Golden Cap to climb. The view from the top was stunning! ...

... so just to prove that we did get there we took photos of us all beside the NT stone plaque.

By now we were not only externally wet but also our inner clothes and inner boots were wet so on the way down to Seatown we decided to walk up the road back to the house in Chideock, try to dry off, and complete the walk on our free day on Thursday.

After a change of clothes we all went in to Bridport for coffee at COSTA, did a bit of food shopping and then stopped off at the George Inn in Chideock for drinks. So the day wasn't all bad.
